Bethlehem, Pa., (April 9, 2013) -The General Manager of the Historic Hotel Bethlehem, Dennis J. Costello, is please to announce a evening in celebration of Sir Winston Churchill, a guest of the hotel in 1929. The event will be held on Friday evening April 19th beginning at 5pm through 10pm.
Churchill visited Bethlehem at the invitation of Charles M. Schwab, President of Bethlehem Steel to tour Schwab’s steel plant in 1929.
To celebrate this great man, the Historic Hotel Bethlehem’s Tap Room with be offering a special Churchill dinner and British-inspired musical entertainment. The chef has put together a wonderful menu inspired by traditional English fare. Beginning with a Batter-dipped Haddock and Chips, served with the customary salt and malt vinegar. The chef’s recommended beverage to compliment the Churchill dinner is Strongbow’s Hard Cider, a dry cider made of a blend of bitter-sweet cider and culinary apples imported from Hereford, England. While hard cider was a popular drink prior to American Prohibition, it never regained its popularity after the liquor laws were repealed, in contrast, at present Strongbow is one of the top ten drinks sold in English and Welsh pubs. To complete the British dining experience our hotel’s Pastry Chef will be making Rum Raisin Toffee Bread Pudding for dessert. The evening’s entertainment will be provided by the lovely Jennifer Beierle, a musical performance major at Moravian College, with a tribute to the music of Great Britain.
~ Some lucky guests may even catch a glimpse of Sir Churchill himself! ~
