Bethlehem, Pa., (December 20, 2010) – Dennis Costello, General Manager of the Historic Hotel Bethlehem launched the hotel’s yearly “Commence Christmas” project in early November. With the planning meetings actually beginning in October, the hefty task of decorating the historic hotel is set in motion with two professional designers supervising and organizing the set-up along with the hotel’s engineering staff, all during the midnight hours as to not disturb the hotel’s guests.
“Guests travel thousands of miles to experience Christmas in Bethlehem, so we work very hard at making sure every visit is memorable” says Costello. For a number of years the hotel has employed designers Gary Burger and Robert Averill to coordinate the decorating project as well as design the elaborate displays. Their designs are structured to highlight the beautiful architectural features of the hotel. The project necessitates 600 hours of preparation by designers and engineering staff. “We use more than forty thousand lights, incorporate 24 different trees, 36 wreaths, 6 life size toy soldiers, a hand painted nativity scene, a gingerbread house, and over 100 yards of garland swags” says Costello.
